SECRETS & JOURNEYS: Aspects of surrealist organising and integrity
By Mattias Forshage
Aspects of surrealist organising and integrity. Four essays from winter 2020-2021 by Mattias Forshage.
Including:
* No secrets of a walk across the bog
* A league of departure; Basis of surrealism, phylogenetically and ontogenetically
* The concept of the surrealist group
* A blistering blueprint torn from several angles; Open letter to academic students of surrealism
Fresh off the streets, a new series of essays written with a view to confronting some big questions facing surrealist activity during our current “dark times”. Simultaneously thoughtful, tragic, funny, and not shying away from fighting words—since, as the author says, “surrealism rests on a break”. From which emerge certain imperatives, possible pitfalls and aspects of hope… The essays focus especially on core concerns of the contemporary situation: collectivity, lived poetry, group organizing and security of the spirit, as brought up in the need for awareness of the objective differences between surrealism and other spheres such as the cultural world or the academic study of surrealismology. Recommended reading for all those who are not yet ready to capitulate the life of poetry in difficult circumstances.
